SLS Playa Mujeres opened in late 2024 as the first all-inclusive from SLS, with 498 rooms and suites at the southern end of Playa Mujeres. Wedding listings name three beach venues, Pier Beach, Jungle Beach and Central Beach, plus a ballroom of almost 10,000 square feet for very large receptions. From roughly February to November the sun rises from behind Isla Mujeres, right in front of the beach.
SLS Playa Mujeres is the newest big name on this shore, and it was built for scale: three beach venues, a ballroom that seats hundreds and eighteen places to eat and drink. That makes it one of the few resorts near Cancún where a wedding of 200 or more feels natural rather than squeezed. This guide compares its beach venues from the photographer's side and explains how to plan the light, the timeline and the vendor paperwork.

Capacities come from wedding directory listings and opening coverage, and a resort this new is still adjusting its packages, so treat your coordinator's sheet as the final word.
Pier, Jungle or Central Beach
Pier Beach is listed for about 500 guests. A pier gives a ceremony something most beach venues lack: a strong line leading the eye out to sea. We like to use it for portraits too, with the couple at the end of the pier and open water on three sides, as long as the resort allows access at that hour.
Jungle Beach, listed for about 200, is the intimate option. Green vegetation behind the sand gives a softer, more natural backdrop, and the smaller scale makes a 60-guest ceremony feel full rather than lost on an empty beach.
Central Beach, also about 500, is the open, classic setting. It is the easiest for logistics, close to the main buildings and the reception spaces, but it is also the most visible to other guests, so we pay attention to sightlines when we set the aisle.
For receptions, the ballroom is the largest indoor space on this shore, almost 10,000 square feet across flexible rooms. It is the weather plan every big wedding needs, and with good uplighting it photographs far better than its size suggests.

SLS sits at the southern end of Playa Mujeres, close to Punta Sam, with Isla Mujeres directly across the channel. The sun sets behind the resort, so a late-afternoon ceremony has soft, even light, and we plan it about 90 minutes before sunset. Mornings are special here: from roughly February through November the sun rises from behind Isla Mujeres, so a sunrise session the day after the wedding puts the island's silhouette right behind you.
Photographing a Wedding of 200
Big weddings are a different job. The ceremony is wider, the family list is longer and the reception has more moving parts, so one photographer is rarely enough. We recommend two photographers for any wedding over 100 guests: one stays with the couple, the other covers guests, family groups and the reception room before it fills.
Family formals are where large weddings lose the light. We prepare a list with you in advance, call groups in order from largest to smallest, and use a family member as a helper to gather people. Done right, it takes about twenty minutes. Our guide to posing 20 or more people on a resort beach explains the method.
Outside Photographers
Like other resorts on this shore, expect SLS to charge outside wedding vendors for access, as a vendor fee or a per-person day pass. As a new property, its policies may still change, so ask for the exact amount and the conditions in writing before you sign, including whether a second photographer is charged separately. We send insurance and ID paperwork to your coordinator ourselves. Our Playa Mujeres vendor fee guide explains how these charges work on this shore.

Coverage and Prices
IVAE Studios publishes its prices. Half-day coverage of up to four hours is 1,800 to 2,800 USD. For a large SLS wedding we recommend the full day of eight to ten hours with a second photographer, 3,500 to 5,500 USD, and adding a wedding film brings it to 5,500 to 8,000 USD. Every gallery is delivered within one to three business days, even for a wedding of several hundred guests.
