Atelier Playa Mujeres is the design-led resort of this shore: contemporary Mexican art and architecture, adults-only for guests 16 and over, with a family wing called Estudio in the same complex. Wedding listings name a beach site for about 150 guests, ocean-view terraces and a small garden chapel used for Catholic ceremonies. Its interiors photograph so well that a windy or rainy day costs you less here than anywhere nearby.
Atelier Playa Mujeres was built around an idea: a resort as a gallery of contemporary Mexican art and design. For wedding photography that idea is a gift, because it gives you two looks in one place: the calm turquoise beach of Playa Mujeres and interiors with real architecture, sculpture and texture. This guide covers the ceremony options, how the light works on this shore, the timeline we recommend and what to ask about outside photographers.

Beach, Terrace or Chapel
The beach is listed for ceremonies of about 150 guests and larger receptions. It is classic Playa Mujeres: calm, shallow water, pale sand and Isla Mujeres on the horizon. The beach faces east, so a late-afternoon ceremony has soft, even light and no sun in anyone's eyes.
The ocean-view terraces. The resort itself recommends its terrace as the ideal adults-only ceremony spot, with sweeping ocean views, and listings also name a smaller terrace called Don Fernando for about 90 guests. Terraces are our favourite option here, because height above the beach puts the sea behind the couple instead of other guests, and the architecture gives the frame strong lines.
The Gardenview Chapel sits in a quiet part of the property and is listed for about 80 guests. It is used for Catholic ceremonies only, which makes it the answer for couples who want a religious ceremony at a beach resort. Chapels are darker than the beach, so we work without flash during the ceremony and expose for the faces.

Why the Interiors Matter
At most beach resorts, the inside of the building is where photos go to die: beige corridors, conference carpet, mirrored ceilings. Atelier is different. Its common areas are designed around contemporary Mexican art, with sculptural pieces, strong materials and long sightlines. We use them for getting-ready portraits, the first look and the moody frames after dark.
This matters for planning. If the afternoon turns windy, or a summer storm rolls through, you still have a beautiful place for portraits, which is not true of every resort on this coast. And the contrast between a minimal architectural interior and the turquoise beach outside gives a gallery real variety.
Sunset, Sunrise and Isla Mujeres
Times for this beach on the 15th of each month in 2027, with no daylight saving in Quintana Roo:
| Month | Sunrise | Golden | Sunset |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 7:27 am | 5:54 pm | 6:26 pm |
| March | 6:56 am | 6:27 pm | 6:57 pm |
| May | 6:09 am | 6:47 pm | 7:18 pm |
| June | 6:05 am | 6:58 pm | 7:30 pm |
| July | 6:14 am | 7:01 pm | 7:32 pm |
| September | 6:34 am | 6:21 pm | 6:50 pm |
| November | 6:58 am | 5:34 pm | 6:06 pm |
| December | 7:17 am | 5:35 pm | 6:08 pm |
We plan beach and terrace ceremonies to start about 90 minutes before sunset, so that portraits fall in the warm last light. The sun sets behind the resort, which means the shoreline is evenly lit at the end of the day and the sea turns deep blue for a short blue-hour portrait after sunset. In the mornings, from roughly September through March, the sun rises from behind Isla Mujeres, directly across the channel: a beautiful setting for a day-after session.
Outside Photographers and Fees
Atelier charges outside wedding vendors for access. In our comparison of the Playa Mujeres resorts we place it at the upper end of the corridor, but the amount is revised by season and package, so ask for the exact figure in writing before you sign. Ask whether it applies per vendor or per person, and whether higher wedding packages include it. We handle the paperwork with your coordinator ourselves.

Coverage and Prices
IVAE Studios publishes its prices. Half-day wedding coverage of up to four hours is 1,800 to 2,800 USD; a full day of eight to ten hours with a second photographer is 3,500 to 5,500 USD; adding a wedding film brings it to 5,500 to 8,000 USD. Galleries are delivered within one to three business days.
At Atelier we usually suggest at least six hours, because the getting-ready and interior portraits are part of what makes a wedding here different. For the neighbouring resorts, see our guides to Excellence Playa Mujeres and Secrets Playa Mujeres.
