Seaside or Oasis Gazebo
The Seaside Gazebo sits on the beach, listed for about 100 guests. It gives you the classic Playa Mujeres ceremony: calm turquoise water and Isla Mujeres on the horizon behind you, with the gazebo's roof for a little shade. We place the couple toward the open side so that faces are not lost in shadow against the bright sea.
The Oasis Gazebo is garden-style, also about 100 guests. Greenery instead of sea gives a softer, more romantic mood, it is sheltered from the wind off the channel, and it is the better choice on a breezy winter afternoon or for couples who want something different from every other beach wedding. Garden light is gentler, which is kind to skin and to older guests.
For the reception, the Playa Mujeres Ballroom is listed for about 80, which tells you the resort's sweet spot: weddings of 30 to 80 guests where every person fits in the frame.

The beach faces east, so the sun sets behind the resort, which gives the Seaside Gazebo soft, even light at the end of the day and a deep blue sea behind you. We plan ceremonies about 90 minutes before sunset. In the garden the light fades a little earlier under the trees, so an Oasis Gazebo ceremony can start ten or fifteen minutes sooner. For a day-after session, mornings on this shore are beautiful: for much of the year the sun comes up from behind Isla Mujeres or just beside it.
Photographing an Intimate Wedding
