At Atelier Playa Mujeres we recommend proposing on one of the ocean-view terraces at the last light, or at the water's edge if you want the sea at your feet. The photographer waits as a guest with a long lens and shoots from a distance. From roughly September to March, sunrise comes up from behind Isla Mujeres for a quieter option. Coverage starts at 245 USD.
Atelier is a resort where the setting already looks designed, which takes a lot of pressure off a proposal: you do not need a florist's arch to make the photo beautiful. This short guide covers where we would ask the question at Atelier Playa Mujeres, when, how the photographer stays out of sight and what to do with the half hour after the yes.
The Plan at a Glance
- Best spotAn ocean-view terrace at the last light
- AlternativeThe water's edge, away from bars and pools
- Quiet optionSunrise, roughly September to March, behind Isla Mujeres
- PhotographerWaits as a guest, 20 to 40 metres away

Terrace or Beach
The ocean-view terrace. The resort describes its terrace as the ideal spot for an adults-only ceremony with sweeping ocean views, and the same qualities make it ideal for a proposal: height, open sea behind you and architecture that frames the moment. It is a wedding venue, so ask the front desk or concierge which terrace is free at your time.
The water's edge. If your partner loves the beach, walk down to the sand in the last half hour of light. The water here is calm and shallow, and the beach faces east, so there is no glare in your faces and the sea turns deep blue around you. Choose a stretch away from the pool and bar so that other guests stay behind the photographer.

The Right Minute
We plan the question for about 25 minutes before sunset. Times for this beach on the 15th of each month in 2027:
| Month | Sunrise | Golden | Sunset |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 7:27 am | 5:54 pm | 6:26 pm |
| March | 6:56 am | 6:27 pm | 6:57 pm |
| May | 6:09 am | 6:47 pm | 7:18 pm |
| June | 6:05 am | 6:58 pm | 7:30 pm |
| July | 6:14 am | 7:01 pm | 7:32 pm |
| September | 6:34 am | 6:21 pm | 6:50 pm |
| November | 6:58 am | 5:34 pm | 6:06 pm |
| December | 7:17 am | 5:35 pm | 6:08 pm |
If you prefer privacy above everything, consider sunrise. From roughly September through March the sun comes up from behind Isla Mujeres, across the channel, and the resort is silent at 6:30 am.
How the Photographer Hides
Our photographer arrives early, checks in as your guest and waits 20 to 40 metres away with a long lens, at a table on the terrace or a lounger on the beach. We agree three signals in advance: a message when you leave your suite, a marker where you stop, and the moment you turn your partner toward the sea. You never need to look for us.
For access, the photographer's name goes on your reservation at the front desk; Atelier is for guests 16 and over, and our photographers are adults. A short private session for a staying guest is very seldom charged the outside vendor fee used for weddings, but we confirm the current policy with the resort in writing.

After the Yes
Once the ring is on, we take 20 to 40 minutes of relaxed portraits: on the terrace while the light is warm, then down to the water as the sea turns blue. If you like, we finish with a few editorial frames inside the resort's art-filled spaces after sunset.
Proposal coverage uses our session collections: Spark, 245 USD for 35 minutes and 15 photos; Glow Hour, 325 USD for 45 minutes and 25 photos, the most common choice; and Essential Flow, 395 USD for 60 minutes and 35 photos, if you want the terrace, the beach and the interiors. Your gallery arrives in one to three business days. More on our surprise proposal photographer page.
