Finest Playa Mujeres gives you three good proposal settings: the stone arch gazebo above the beach, the water's edge in the last half hour before sunset, and the two-storey Sky Bar for a view from above. Because the resort welcomes families, it is also one of the easiest places near Cancún to propose with parents or children nearby. Coverage starts at 245 USD.
Many couples who propose at Finest are travelling with family, and that changes the plan: someone has to keep the children busy, the parents want to be close but not in the way, and the photographer has to stay invisible among a lot of people who know the secret. This guide shows how we plan proposals at Finest Playa Mujeres, from choosing between the gazebo, the beach and the Sky Bar to the minute you ask and the family photo afterwards.

Gazebo, Beach or Sky Bar
The stone arch gazebo. It overlooks the beach and the sea, and the arch frames the two of you beautifully from the sand below. It is our first suggestion when the proposal includes a small decoration, because the structure holds flowers and lanterns well. It is also a wedding venue, so check with the resort that it is free at your time.
The water's edge. The simplest and often the most beautiful. The sea here is calm and shallow, and the horizon shows only Isla Mujeres. Choose a stretch of sand away from the pools and the beach bar, so that other guests are behind the photographer and not behind you.
The Sky Bar. A two-storey bar with panoramic views over the water and the grounds. A proposal at the top, at the last light, gives a wider and more dramatic frame. It works best at a quiet moment, so ask the bar staff about the calmest time, often just before the evening rush.

The Right Minute by Month
We plan the question for about 25 minutes before sunset, which leaves the best light for photographs afterwards. Times for this beach on the 15th of each month in 2027:
| Month | Sunrise | Golden | Sunset |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 7:27 am | 5:54 pm | 6:26 pm |
| March | 6:56 am | 6:27 pm | 6:57 pm |
| May | 6:09 am | 6:47 pm | 7:18 pm |
| June | 6:05 am | 6:58 pm | 7:30 pm |
| July | 6:14 am | 7:01 pm | 7:32 pm |
| September | 6:34 am | 6:21 pm | 6:50 pm |
| November | 6:58 am | 5:34 pm | 6:06 pm |
| December | 7:17 am | 5:35 pm | 6:08 pm |
The beach faces east, so the sun sets behind the resort and the shoreline gets soft, even light, which is kind to tears and nervous smiles. From the Sky Bar you can also see the warm sky over the land side. If you are early risers, sunrise is quieter still: for most of the year, roughly August through April, the sun comes up from behind Isla Mujeres.
Keeping the Secret With Family Around
Our photographer arrives early, checks in as your guest and waits 20 to 40 metres from the spot with a long lens, looking like anyone else enjoying the evening. We agree three signals: a message when you leave the room, the marker where you stop, and the moment you turn your partner toward the sea.
When family knows the secret, give them one simple job: be at the Sky Bar or a nearby terrace at the agreed time, out of your partner's line of sight, and walk over only when the photographer waves them in. Children are the biggest risk to a surprise, so tell them as late as possible. The reaction photographs come first; the family hug comes two minutes later and makes a second set of photos everyone will want.
For a staying guest, the photographer's name goes on your reservation at the front desk. A short private session is very seldom charged the outside vendor fee used for weddings, but we confirm the current policy with the resort in writing beforehand.
Playa Mujeres Moments, Through Our Lens
Couples, weddings and families we have photographed on Playa Mujeres, in the same calm water and soft evening light.

After the Yes
After the moment, we spend 20 to 40 minutes on portraits of the two of you at the water and the gazebo, then bring in the family for a few group photographs before the light goes. If children are part of it, we photograph them first, while they still have energy.
Proposal coverage uses our session collections. Glow Hour, 325 USD for 45 minutes and 25 photos, covers the moment and a short session; Essential Flow, 395 USD for 60 minutes and 35 photos, is better when the family joins afterwards. The smallest option, Spark, is 245 USD for 35 minutes and 15 photos. Your gallery arrives in one to three business days. More ideas on our surprise proposal photographer page.
