A Family Photoshoot at Finest Playa Mujeres: Spots, Times and Prices

Family photos at a resort only work if the children are comfortable, and children are comfortable where the water is calm and nobody is rushing them. Finest Playa Mujeres has both. This is how we plan family sessions there: which spots suit toddlers and teenagers, which hour of the day keeps everyone happy, how the photographer gets in, and which of our collections fits a family your size.

Where We Shoot With Children

The water's edge. The sea in front of Playa Mujeres is shallow and calm, often with barely a ripple. That is the most important fact for a family session: small children can stand ankle-deep, splash and run without a wave knocking them over, and the photos come out full of real play instead of stiff poses. We start here while energy is high.

The stone gazebo and the gardens. When little ones need a break from the sun, the stone arch gazebo above the beach and the planted areas around it give shade and a different background. It is also where we take the classic group portrait with grandparents, who are happier on solid ground than in soft sand.

The Sky Bar steps and terrace. At the end of the session, a few frames from the two-storey Sky Bar show the whole family with the sea and the resort behind. We use it with older children and teenagers, who tend to enjoy the height and the view.

Sunrise or Sunset for a Family

These are the times for this beach on the 15th of each month in 2027. Quintana Roo uses the same clock all year.

With children under five, we usually recommend sunrise. They wake early anyway, the beach is empty, the heat has not started, and nobody is tired from a day in the pool. From this part of Playa Mujeres the sun also rises from behind Isla Mujeres for most of the year, roughly August through April. With older children and teenagers, the hour before sunset is easier. Start about an hour before sunset. The beach faces east, so the sun goes down behind the resort and the shoreline falls into soft, even light: no squinting and no harsh shadows on faces.

Toddlers, Teenagers and Grandparents

Every age needs something different, and a good session plans for all of them. Toddlers get the first ten minutes, before they lose interest, and we photograph them playing rather than posing; a small bucket or a favourite toy helps. School-age children love being given a job, like racing to the water or carrying the hat. Teenagers do best when we treat them like adults, keep posing minimal and let them choose one photo idea. Grandparents stay in the shade and on firm ground, and we bring the family to them for the group portraits.

How the Photographer Gets In

If you are staying at Finest Playa Mujeres, the photographer comes in as your invited guest: give the front desk our name and the session time a day or two ahead and we check in at the lobby. For a private family session, a staying guest is very seldom asked for the outside vendor fee that resorts charge for weddings, but we confirm the current policy with the resort in writing before your date. For a family of three or four, Glow Hour at 45 minutes is usually enough. For larger families or several generations, Essential Flow at 60 minutes, the collection most families choose, leaves time for the group portrait, each household and a few frames of the grandparents with the grandchildren.
