A Family Photoshoot at Dreams Playa Mujeres: Spots, Times and Prices

Dreams Playa Mujeres has more than 65,000 square feet of pools, water parks and a lazy river, which keeps children happy all day and makes the pool decks the busiest places on the property. For family photos we go the other way: to the calm shoreline, the gazebo walkway and the gardens. Here is how we plan a session there.

Where We Shoot

The shoreline. Shallow, calm water in front of Playa Mujeres lets toddlers wade and older children run without waves knocking them over, so the photos come out full of real play. We start here while energy is high.

The beach gazebo walkway. When no wedding is booked, the wooden walkway to the beach gazebo gives a clean line for a family walking toward the sea, one of our favourite frames on this property.

The gardens. Shade and green backgrounds for the group portrait, and solid ground for grandparents. We avoid the pool decks, which are busy and full of other families in the background.

Sunrise or Sunset

Times for this beach on the 15th of each month in 2027.

With children under five we usually suggest sunrise: they wake early, the beach is empty and it is cool. Older children do well in the hour before sunset, when the beach is softly lit. From roughly October through February the sun rises from behind Isla Mujeres, which makes a sunrise session here unusually striking.

How the Photographer Gets In

How does the photographer get in? As your guest. Tell the Dreams Playa Mujeres front desk our name and the time of the session in advance, and we check in at the lobby like anyone meeting you for dinner. A short private session for a staying guest is very seldom charged the outside vendor fee used for weddings, and we confirm the current policy with the resort in writing. Non-guests should plan for a day pass, as our access guide explains.
