A Couples Photoshoot at Secrets Playa Mujeres: Spots, Times and Prices

Most couples who stay at Secrets Playa Mujeres are there for a honeymoon, an anniversary or a few days without anyone else's schedule. A photoshoot fits that trip naturally: an hour, one photographer, and the quietest beach in the Cancún area. This guide covers where we shoot on and around the property, when the light is at its best in each month, how access works for a staying guest, and which of our collections makes sense.

The short version: pick sunrise or the last hour of daylight, tell the front desk the photographer is coming, and plan for about an hour. The rest of this guide is the detail that turns a nice session into one you frame.

Five Places to Shoot On and Near the Property

1. The shoreline at the water's edge. This is the reason to shoot here. The sea in front of Playa Mujeres is shallow and calm, so you can stand ankle-deep without waves breaking around you, and the horizon carries only the low silhouette of Isla Mujeres. It is our first stop in every session.

2. The wedding gazebo. The resort's elevated, open-air gazebo sits above the sand with an ocean view. When no ceremony is booked it gives a clean architectural frame and, because it is raised, the sea fills the background instead of the beach. Ask the front desk whether it is free at your time.

3. The golf course edge and mangrove. On the land side, fairway edges and water hazards give green, sheltered backgrounds, and this is where the sun genuinely sets over water. Golf areas are working space, so we only use them with the resort's permission and after play has finished.

4. Pools and terraces at quiet hours. At 6:30 in the morning the pool decks are empty and the light is soft. Midday they are busy, and we keep other guests out of your photos, so we avoid them then.

Sunrise or Sunset: The Times by Month

These are the times for this stretch of beach on the 15th of each month in 2027. Quintana Roo does not use daylight saving, so they apply all year. "Golden" is when the sun drops below six degrees and the light turns warm.

Sunset sessions start about 50 minutes before sunset. Because the beach faces east, the sun goes down behind the resort, and the shoreline falls into soft, even light with the sea turning deep blue. It is the most flattering light for skin and the easiest for couples who have never been photographed.

Sunrise sessions are the secret of this property. From roughly October through February the sun rises from behind Isla Mujeres, directly across the water from the beach, and the sand is empty. How the Photographer Gets In

If you are staying at Secrets Playa Mujeres, the photographer comes in as your invited guest. In practice that means giving the front desk the photographer's name and the time of the session a day or two ahead, and we check in at the lobby when we arrive. For a private session for two, a staying guest is very seldom asked for the outside vendor fee that resorts charge for weddings, but policies can change by season, so we confirm it with the resort in writing before your date.

What to Wear on This Beach

Playa Mujeres gives you pale sand, turquoise shallows and a blue horizon, so colour works in your favour. Soft whites, sand, terracotta and dusty blue sit beautifully against it; very bright neon and busy small prints fight with the water. Flowing fabrics move well in the breeze off the channel, and a dress that can get wet at the hem lets us use the shallows.
