Holbox in Winter: Weather, Sunset Times and Planning Photos from December to March

Families and couples who come to Holbox in winter get the island at its best: clear skies, comfortable heat and long evenings at Punta Cocos. Here is what to expect, month by month, and how to plan around the one thing winter can bring, the wind.

The Weather

December to March is the dry season on Holbox: warm days, cooler nights, low humidity and far fewer mosquitoes than in summer. The sky is usually clear at sunset, and the water is calm on most days, which keeps the sandbars and the shallows at their best.

Cold Fronts and Wind

A few times each winter, a cold front from the north crosses the Yucatán. Because Holbox faces north, it feels them first: a day or two of strong wind, cooler air, choppier water and sometimes changes to the ferry schedule. They pass quickly. We always keep a second evening of your stay as a backup, and on a windy day we move the session to sheltered streets in the village or to the lagoon side.

Sunset Times

Times for Punta Cocos on the 15th of each month in 2027. Quintana Roo does not use daylight saving.

In December the sun sets around 6:10 pm, so we meet around 5 pm; by March, around 5:50 pm.

Holidays and Crowds
