Puerto Vallarta Family Photographer

Editorial family portraits on the Pacific coast of Jalisco: Playa Los Muertos, the cobbled Romantic Zone, the jungle-backed coves of Conchas Chinas, and sunsets that fall straight into Banderas Bay. Our Cancún studio, travelling to you. Bilingual direction, paced for every age.

Plan Your Vallarta Family Session

A family photographer for the Pacific coast

As your Puerto Vallarta family photographer, our studio works the stretch of Mexican coast where the Sierra Madre jungle tumbles straight down to Banderas Bay. The town is golden sand and cobbled streets, bougainvillea-draped facades and a Malecón boardwalk that follows the water, all under a sun that sets directly over the Pacific. We build every family session around that hour, in the Zona Romántica, on the south-shore coves, and across the bay in Nuevo Vallarta and Sayulita, so your portraits carry the specific warmth and color of Vallarta rather than a postcard that could be anywhere.

A note on honesty, because it matters: IVAE Studios is based in Cancún, on the Caribbean side of Mexico, and we travel to Puerto Vallarta for family sessions. We do not keep a local Vallarta office. What you book is the same editorial studio, the same bilingual direction and the same warm, luminous gallery we bring to the Caribbean, simply applied to the Pacific. Travel is folded into your quote, and we plan the logistics and the golden-hour timing around Banderas Bay in advance.

The work is editorial and unhurried. We direct gently, in English or Spanish, and we read the room: a two-year-old who needs to run into the surf at Los Muertos, a grandfather who would rather sit on the warm sand than stand, a teenager who relaxes the moment nobody asks them to smile. We pace the session so each generation stays comfortable through the golden-hour window, then move quietly between two or three nearby setups. The result is a family that looks like itself, framed against a coastline that looks like nowhere else.

This page is for families specifically. If you are planning a wedding, a proposal, or a couples session on the Pacific, our broader couples photography and destination wedding pages cover those. And our wider destination family photography service spans both Mexican coastlines under one studio.

Family photo spots around Banderas Bay

01

Playa Los Muertos

The wide, walkable main beach of the Zona Romántica, with the colorful Pier of the Hanging Men in frame. Soft golden sand for little ones to play, easy access from town, and the easiest place to catch the sun setting straight into the bay.

02

Conchas Chinas Coves

Just south of town, the sheltered coves of Conchas Chinas offer calmer water, tide pools, and dramatic rock formations. The signature setting for relaxed, in-the-water family sequences away from the busier beaches.

03

The Malecón & Old Town

The seafront boardwalk with its bronze sculptures, plus the cobbled streets and bougainvillea of the Romantic Zone, give the bay a colorful, walkable texture. A graceful change of pace from the open beach and a strong rain-day fallback.

04

Nuevo Vallarta & Flamingos

North across the bay, the long, flat, resort-lined beaches are gentle for young children and easy for large groups. Wide-open sand and clear horizons make this a favorite for multi-generation reunions and big families.

05

Sayulita & the Riviera Nayarit

A little further up the coast, Sayulita brings jungle, surf, and a bohemian, colorful old town for families who want a barefoot, relaxed feel. Bucerías and Punta de Mita add quieter village beaches and calm coves at the mouth of the bay.

06

Your Resort

The beaches and grounds of Banderas Bay resorts, from the Hotel Zone to Punta de Mita, photograph beautifully: palm walkways, infinity edges, and golden sand, all coordinated with your concierge around your dinner reservation.

How the light moves over the bay

Sunset over the water

Banderas Bay faces west, so the sun sets directly over the Pacific, wrapping families in warm gold as it falls toward the horizon. We meet you about ninety minutes before sunset and shoot through the soft window as the bay calms and the sky turns.

Sunrise for early risers

Families with young, early-waking children often do best at sunrise: near-empty beaches, gentle rose light, and cooler sand. We use it for the calmest sessions and for the quietest frames in the old town before the Malecón fills with the day.

Dry season vs. green season

November through April brings the most reliable, comfortable weather and is peak season for visiting families. Summer and early autumn are lush, green, and humid with afternoon rain, so we time sessions carefully and keep a flexible, weather-aware plan.

Tides & crowds

We scout tides and beach traffic in advance so your frames stay open and uncluttered. On the south shore we favor the calmer, sheltered coves at Conchas Chinas, where the surf is gentler for children and grandparents alike.

Wardrobe, the session day, and what arrives

A Vallarta family session is built to feel like the best evening of your trip rather than an appointment. We meet you on a bay beach or inside your resort about ninety minutes before sunset, start while there is still room to play in the sand, and move quietly through two or three nearby setups as the light deepens. We direct in English or Spanish, fold in the children's energy instead of fighting it, and keep grandparents seated and close to the action so no one is standing for long. Most families forget the camera is there within the first few minutes.

After booking you receive a wardrobe guide written for the warm, lush palette of the Pacific coast. The studio suggests coordinating, not matching, around two or three soft tones: ivory, sand, sage, terracotta and warm coral all sit beautifully against golden sand, jungle green and the colorful walls of the old town rather than competing with them. Flowing linens and cottons move well in the bay breeze, and barefoot reads better than shoes on the sand. We steer families away from neon, large logos and busy prints, and we are glad to review your outfits before the session so every generation looks like part of the same frame.

Because Banderas Bay faces west, we plan the entire session around the sunset, never the flat, hard light of midday. You leave with a private online gallery of fully edited, color-graded images in our warm editorial tone, delivered in one to three days, with pricing shared by inquiry so it fits your group and your time on the coast. Travel from Cancún is built into the quote. If your trip also touches the Caribbean, the same studio photographs the other coastline through our luxury family photography service.

Best-fit family sessions in Puerto Vallarta

01

Golden-Hour Family Portraits

The signature session: a relaxed walking portrait across a bay beach at sunset, direction calibrated for kids of every age and grandparents who want to stay seated and close to the action.

02

Multi-Generation Reunions

Extended sessions for the whole family traveling together, up to ten people and beyond by quote. The long, flat beaches of Nuevo Vallarta suit big groups, and we build a shot list in advance so every pairing and grandparent combination is captured without rushing.

03

Resort & Celebration Days

Birthdays, anniversaries, and milestone trips photographed at your resort or on the beach. Couples celebrating without the kids can also book a couples session, and families marking a wedding weekend can add wedding coverage.

Planning your Vallarta family session

A relaxed, walking portrait built around golden hour on Banderas Bay. We meet your family on a beach in the Zona Romántica or inside your resort about ninety minutes before sunset and move through two or three nearby setups, directing gently in English or Spanish at a pace that keeps toddlers and grandparents comfortable. The look is editorial and unposed, built for Vallarta's lush, jungle-backed coast.

For families we favor the sheltered south-shore beaches and the walkable old town: Playa Los Muertos in the Zona Romántica with the colorful pier in frame, the calmer coves and tide pools of Conchas Chinas, and the Malecón boardwalk and cobbled streets of the Romantic Zone. North across the bay, Nuevo Vallarta has long flat resort beaches, and Sayulita brings jungle and surf. We scout tides and crowds in advance so your frames stay uncluttered.

No. IVAE Studios is based in Cancún, on the Caribbean side of Mexico, and we travel to Puerto Vallarta for family sessions. We do not keep a local Vallarta office, and we are honest about that. You are booking the same editorial studio and the same bilingual direction we bring to the Caribbean, simply on the Pacific coast. Travel from Cancún is folded into your quote, and we plan the golden-hour timing and the locations around Banderas Bay in advance.

Yes. The Zona Romántica is one of the most photogenic parts of the bay for families. Playa Los Muertos anchors the area with golden sand and the landmark pier, and a short walk inland gives you cobbled streets, bougainvillea, and the Malecón boardwalk with its bronze sculptures. We usually pair a beach setup at golden hour with a few frames in the old town so your gallery carries both the sea and the color of Vallarta.

Yes. Many families stay north across the bay, and we travel the whole of Banderas Bay. Nuevo Vallarta and Flamingos have long, flat, resort-lined beaches that are gentle for young children and easy for big groups. Bucerías offers a quieter village beach, Sayulita brings jungle and surf and a bohemian old town, and Punta de Mita sits at the mouth of the bay with calm coves. We confirm the drive time from your hotel and plan the golden-hour window around it.

Yes, resort sessions are among our most requested formats. We photograph on the beaches and grounds of resorts around Banderas Bay, from the Zona Romántica and the Hotel Zone to Nuevo Vallarta, Flamingos, and Punta de Mita, coordinating access and any day-pass policy with the concierge around your dinner reservation. If a property restricts outside photographers, we arrange a nearby public beach alternative.

Golden hour is the heart of every session, with sunrise a quieter option for families with early-rising kids. Because the bay faces west, the sun sets straight over the water for spectacular sunset portraits most of the year. November through April brings the most reliable, comfortable weather and is peak season; summer and early autumn are greener and more humid with afternoon rain, so we time sessions carefully. We avoid harsh midday sun.

Standard sessions comfortably hold up to ten people, covering immediate families and most multi-generation groups. For larger reunions we recommend an extended ninety to one-hundred-twenty-minute session with a shot list built in advance, so every pairing is captured without rushing. The long, flat beaches of Nuevo Vallarta work especially well for big groups. Larger parties are quoted individually.

After booking you receive a wardrobe guide for the warm, lush Pacific palette: two or three soft tones such as ivory, sand, sage, terracotta, and warm coral, in flowing linens and cottons that move in the bay breeze. These sit beautifully against golden sand, jungle green, and the colorful old-town walls. We steer families away from neon, large logos, and busy prints, and we will gladly review your outfits beforehand.

Book four to eight weeks ahead, and earlier for peak season from December through March and around spring break, when bay sunsets fill quickly. A little lead time also lets us plan the trip from Cancún efficiently. Your edited private gallery arrives within one to three days for portrait sessions. Send your travel dates and we reply the same day with golden-hour availability.

Pricing is shared by inquiry, because a family session is shaped by group size, how many locations and how long you want on the coast, where on the bay you are staying, and travel from Cancún. Tell us your dates, your group and your resort, and the studio replies the same day with availability and a clear quote that already includes travel. There are no hidden delivery or editing fees.

We pace the whole session around the children rather than against them. We start with play in the sand or the tide pools at Conchas Chinas, photograph the natural in-between moments, and keep direction light and quick so no one is asked to hold a smile. Snacks, a favorite toy and a relaxed start all help. The sheltered south-shore beaches and the long, gentle sand of Nuevo Vallarta are chosen precisely so little ones stay happy.

Yes. Alongside vacation portraits we photograph milestone birthdays, anniversaries, babymoons and multi-generation reunions around Banderas Bay, and parents traveling without the kids often add a couples session at golden hour. If your trip includes a wedding or vow renewal in Vallarta, we cover those through our destination wedding page, all under one bilingual studio that travels from Cancún.
