Destination Couples Photographer in Mexico

An editorial, golden-hour session for the two of you, anywhere in the country. We are based in Cancún and travel to meet you, on a Caribbean beach, a Sayulita lane, a San Miguel de Allende rooftop. Engagements, honeymoons, proposals and couple portraits.

Plan Your Destination Session

A couples session, wherever in Mexico you are

Mexico is a country you photograph couples in, not just one coast of it. The studio is based in Cancún, on the Caribbean, and that is where we shoot most often, but the work has never stopped at the state line. We travel from Cancún to wherever the two of you are headed: a honeymoon on the Pacific in Sayulita or Punta Mita, an engagement on the cobblestones of San Miguel de Allende, a couple session on a Tulum beach, a proposal in the courtyards of Oaxaca. This is the national page for that work, the single home for a destination couple, engagement or honeymoon session anywhere in the country.

The session itself is the same wherever it happens: an hour or two at golden hour, just the two of you, walking and leaning in and laughing at something only you understand, directed in both languages so neither of you has to think about the camera. What changes is the backdrop, and Mexico gives you an unfair amount to choose from. The turquoise calm of the Caribbean coast, the deeper amber and bigger surf of Los Cabos and the Riviera Nayarit, the pink stone and lantern light of the colonial Bajío, the courtyards of Oaxaca, the rooftops of Mexico City. The work stays editorial, intimate and built to feel timeless rather than dated to the year it was made.

Because IVAE is a Cancún studio first, the Caribbean coast has its own deeper home on our couples photography page, where we know every beach and the hour each one turns gold. This page is for everywhere else, and for couples who want the whole country on the table. If your milestone is an anniversary you want to mark on your own, see our anniversary couples page. For weddings, see luxury weddings. This page is the couples session, planned around a destination you choose and we travel to.

Couple sessions across Mexico

01

The Caribbean Coast

Where we are based and shoot most: Cancún, the Riviera Maya and Tulum, with the turquoise water and white sand that draw couples here in the first place. The deepest home on the site, with its own page.

02

Los Cabos & Baja

The Pacific tip of Baja California Sur, where the desert meets the sea. Dramatic rock, deep gold light and bigger sunsets in Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, for a different feel from the Caribbean.

03

Riviera Nayarit

The Pacific coast north of Puerto Vallarta: the surf-town lanes of Sayulita, the calm bays of Punta Mita and the jungle that runs down to the sand. Warm, barefoot and unhurried, with deep amber light at dusk.

04

San Miguel de Allende

The colonial heart of the Bajío. Cobblestone calles, ochre and rose façades, the pink stone of the Parroquia and warm rooftop light at golden hour. A city session that trades sand for old stone.

05

Oaxaca & Mérida

Two of Mexico's most photogenic colonial cities: Oaxaca's painted courtyards and mezcalerías, and Mérida's pastel centro and Paseo de Montejo. Rich colour, warm evening light and architecture that does half the work.

06

Mexico City & Beyond

The leafy streets of Roma and Condesa, the avenues of Chapultepec, and on request the hillsides of Guanajuato or the cenotes of the Yucatán. Tell us the destination and the studio will travel to meet you there.

How a destination session moves

Golden hour, the heart of it

The last 75 to 90 minutes before sunset, roughly 5:00 to 7:30 PM depending on the season and the part of the country, carry the warm, forgiving light that suits two people. We build the whole session around that window wherever you are.

Sunrise, for the empty street

On busy beaches and in popular plazas, a sunrise session gives you the location to yourselves and the softest light of the day. For honeymoon mornings and crowded towns like San Miguel de Allende, dawn is often the smartest call.

Blue hour in the highlands

Colonial towns like San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato reward the blue hour just after sunset, when the lanterns come on and the stone glows. We will pick the window that suits your destination, the coast or the cobblestones.

Movement, not poses

We direct with movement, walking a beach or a cobbled street, a slow turn, a whispered word, rather than static poses. The bilingual direction guides every micro-adjustment so neither of you has to think about where to put your hands.

Travel, wardrobe and the shape of the session

A destination session asks very little of you. For coasts and towns beyond our Cancún base, we quote travel transparently up front, flights, ground transport and a night's stay when the session calls for it, with no surprises on the invoice. Many couples book a session for a day they are already at the destination; we simply meet you there. We arrive ahead of time, scout the light, and walk you through the first frames while the light is still high. Most couples feel the camera disappear inside the first ten minutes, somewhere between the first walk and the first quiet laugh.

For wardrobe, the studio sends a short note after booking, and the guidance is simple. Choose two looks that coordinate without matching, in soft tones that hold warm light rather than fight it: cream, sand, warm taupe, dusty blue and gentle terracotta photograph beautifully against Caribbean turquoise, Pacific gold and colonial stone alike. Flowing fabrics read well on a coast and move well through a plaza; for a city or highland session you can add a little more structure. We steer gently away from large logos, neon and busy prints, and we are glad to look at your options before the day.

The light does most of the work, so the studio plans around it rather than against it. Golden hour gives the warm, forgiving glow that flatters skin and softens every line, which is why we never photograph a couple session in the flat, hard light of midday. On the Caribbean the water glows turquoise into the last minutes of sun; on the Pacific in Los Cabos and the Riviera Nayarit the light turns deeper and amber as it falls behind the headland; in the Bajío the stone of San Miguel de Allende warms to rose. You leave with a private online gallery of fully edited, color-graded images, delivered in one to three days, kept in our warm editorial tone so the photographs feel timeless rather than dated to the year they were made.

Planning your destination session

Do you really travel anywhere in Mexico for a couples session?

Yes. The studio is based in Cancún, and we travel from there to couple, engagement and honeymoon sessions across the country. We photograph most often on the Caribbean coast and in Los Cabos, but we regularly fly inland and to the Pacific as well, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Oaxaca, Mexico City, Sayulita, Punta Mita and Puerto Vallarta among them. Tell us the destination and your dates, and the studio confirms travel and availability the same business day.

What is the difference between this page and your Cancún couples page?

This is the national anchor page for destination couple sessions anywhere in Mexico. Our couples photography page focuses on the Caribbean coast we know best, Cancún, the Riviera Maya and Tulum, where we are based and shoot most frequently. If your destination is the Caribbean, start there; if you are planning a session in San Miguel de Allende, Sayulita, Oaxaca or another part of the country, this page is the right home.

Is this for engagements, honeymoons, or just couple portraits?

All three, and a few besides. The same editorial, golden-hour session works for a destination engagement, a honeymoon shoot the morning after a wedding, a surprise proposal we capture from a distance, an anniversary, or simply a couple who wants beautiful portraits while travelling in Mexico. Tell us the occasion and we shape the direction and the locations around it.

We are getting married elsewhere but want photos in Mexico. Is that you?

Often, yes. Plenty of couples marry at home and take a honeymoon or a post-wedding portrait session in Mexico, on a Riviera Maya beach, in a Sayulita lane, on a San Miguel de Allende rooftop at sunset. We photograph that session as its own quiet event, with no ceremony to run, just the two of you and the place you chose to celebrate. For the wedding day itself, see our luxury weddings page.

Which Pacific-coast destinations do you photograph?

On the Pacific we travel to Los Cabos, Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo in Baja, and to the Riviera Nayarit, Sayulita, Punta Mita and the beaches around Puerto Vallarta. The Pacific gives you deeper amber light, bigger surf and dramatic headlands, a different mood from the turquoise calm of the Caribbean. We will help you choose the beach and the hour that suit the two of you.

Do you photograph couples in colonial towns and cities, not just beaches?

Yes, and they are some of our favourite sessions. San Miguel de Allende, with its cobblestone calles and the pink stone of the Parroquia, Guanajuato's coloured hillsides, the courtyards and mezcalerías of Oaxaca, the colonial centre of Mérida, and Mexico City's Roma, Condesa and Chapultepec. A city or colonial session trades sand for architecture and warm evening light on old stone, and it photographs beautifully.

What is the best light for a destination couples session?

Golden hour almost always, the last 75 to 90 minutes before sunset, which falls roughly between 5:00 and 7:30 PM depending on the season and the part of the country. Sunrise is the other strong option, especially on busy beaches and in popular plazas, because the light is soft and the location is yours alone. Highland towns like San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato also reward the blue hour just after sunset, when the stone glows.

How do travel and logistics work for sessions outside Cancún?

For destinations beyond our Cancún and Riviera Maya base, a travel component covers flights, ground transport and a night's stay when the session calls for it, quoted transparently up front with no surprises. Many couples book the session for a day they are already at the destination; we simply meet you there. Send your dates and the location and the studio replies the same business day with a clear, itemized plan.

We are shy in front of a camera. Will a destination session feel natural?

That is most couples we photograph, and the direction is built for it. We start with movement rather than poses, walking a beach or a cobbled street, a slow turn, a whispered word, so the frames feel like an evening out rather than a photoshoot. The studio directs in both English and Spanish, so wherever in Mexico you are, neither of you has to think about where to put your hands.

What should we wear for a destination couples shoot?

Lean into soft, coordinated tones that hold warm light rather than fight it, cream, sand, warm taupe, dusty blue and gentle terracotta photograph beautifully on a beach and against colonial stone alike. Flowing fabrics and a longer dress catch the breeze on a coast and move well through a plaza. For a city or highland session, you can add a little more structure. After booking you receive a short wardrobe note, and we are glad to review your looks before the day.

How far in advance should we book a destination session?

For the high season from November through April, around the winter holidays, and during peak weeks in towns like San Miguel de Allende, reach out as soon as your travel dates are set, ideally several weeks ahead, because golden-hour slots and travel days fill first. Shorter notice is sometimes possible, especially for weekday sunrises. Send your dates and destination and the studio replies the same business day.

What is included, and how long is the session?

A standard destination couples session runs about one to two hours across one or two nearby settings at golden hour, with unhurried bilingual direction throughout and a private online gallery of fully edited, color-graded images delivered in one to three days. Travel to destinations beyond Cancún, permits or resort access, second locations and printed work can be added. Pricing is shared by inquiry once we know your dates and destination.

Can the session be a surprise proposal?

Yes, and we plan these often, anywhere in the country. We coordinate the timing and meeting point quietly with you, position discreetly so the question is private, and switch to a full couple session the moment they say yes. A surprise proposal on a Sayulita beach at sunset, on a San Miguel de Allende rooftop, or on the Caribbean sand pairs naturally with a quiet dinner reservation afterward, which we are happy to time around.

Tell us the destination, we will travel to you

Tell us where in Mexico you are headed, your travel dates and the occasion, an engagement, a honeymoon, a proposal or simply a couple session. The studio replies the same business day with travel, golden-hour availability and a planning conversation. Bilingual, editorial, gallery delivered in 1 to 3 days.
