What is a destination family photographer?
A destination family photographer travels to wherever your family is gathering rather than working from a single studio. IVAE Studios is based in Cancún and travels across Mexico to meet you at your resort, villa or chosen town and photograph your family there, on the beach or in the streets and gardens of the place itself. You do not bring the family to a studio; we bring the studio to your trip.
Where in Mexico does IVAE Studios travel for family sessions?
We are based in Cancún, so the Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Isla Mujeres are close to home. Beyond the Caribbean coast we travel to Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, San Miguel de Allende, Mérida and Mexico City, and we will consider other destinations across the country. Tell us where you are staying and we will confirm travel and the best golden-hour spot near you.
Will the photographer come to our resort or villa?
Yes. The whole point of a destination family session is that we come to you. We photograph on the beach or grounds of your resort, in the garden or rooftop of a private villa, or at a nearby beach, plaza or landmark if your property has photo-access rules. Tell us where you are staying and we will confirm access and plan the session around your location.
How does booking a destination family photographer work?
Send us your travel dates, the city or resort where you are staying, and how many people are in the group. The studio replies the same day in English or Spanish with golden-hour availability for your dates, a recommended spot near you, and a clear quote. Once you confirm, we hold the morning or evening that suits your trip and send a short wardrobe and timing guide before you fly.
When is the best time of day for a destination family session?
Golden hour, always: the soft window just after sunrise or before sunset, when the light is gentle and the most popular spots are at their calmest. On the Caribbean coast and in Los Cabos and Vallarta we often favor sunrise on the beach; in towns like San Miguel de Allende and Mérida the late-afternoon light on the streets and rooftops is unmatched. We scout the spot and sun angle for your specific location in advance.
How far in advance should we book?
As soon as your travel dates are set. Because we travel and golden-hour windows are limited to one or two per day, the calendar fills earliest around holidays and peak season. Booking weeks ahead lets us hold the best light of your trip and plan any travel to a town beyond the Cancún region. Send your dates by WhatsApp or email and the studio replies the same day.
What does a destination family session cost, including travel?
Sessions in and around Cancún and the Riviera Maya carry no travel surcharge. For destinations farther afield, such as Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, San Miguel de Allende, Mérida or Mexico City, we add a transparent travel fee that we quote up front with the session, so there are no surprises. Tell us your location and dates and we send a single, clear quote.
Can you photograph multiple generations or a large family group?
Yes. Many destination family trips are reunions, so we are used to three or four generations and larger groups. We pace the session for the eldest and youngest, build a written running order of the groupings you want, and keep the morning gentle. For a reunion built entirely around the lineage, see our multigenerational family photography page, which goes deeper on large mixed-age groups.
What should our family wear for the photos?
After booking you receive a wardrobe guide. We suggest coordinating two or three soft, complementary tones rather than matching outfits, so the family reads as one without looking like a uniform. Flowing linens and natural fabrics photograph beautifully in golden light, on a beach in Tulum or a colonial street in San Miguel de Allende alike. We are glad to advise on individual looks before the trip.
Do you speak English and Spanish on the session?
Yes. IVAE Studios is fully bilingual, and every part of the experience, from the first message to the direction on the day, happens in your language. That matters most for mixed groups and grandparents, where clear, warm direction in the right language keeps everyone relaxed and the morning moving.
How soon do we receive the gallery, and can we print?
Your private, high-resolution gallery arrives within one to three days, while you are often still on the trip. Every session includes a print release, so you can order heirloom prints and albums for the wall, not only keep the photos on a screen. We gladly advise on printing once you have chosen your favorites.
What if it rains on our session date?
Weather on the coast moves fast, and a passing shower often clears in time for golden hour. If the forecast is genuinely against us, we work with you to shift to another morning or evening within your trip, and we keep an eye on the light so we use the best window available. For travel destinations we agree on a backup day when we plan the trip.
Which city page should we look at for our destination?
This page is the national anchor for destination family sessions across Mexico, and it links to focused pages for each place we work. For the Caribbean coast see our Cancún and Riviera Maya family photography; for the Pacific see our Los Cabos family photographer page. If your destination does not have its own page yet, write to us anyway and we will plan it directly with you.
