JW Marriott Los Cabos: A Photographer's Guide to Weddings in Puerto Los Cabos

In short

JW Marriott Los Cabos sits in Puerto Los Cabos, east of San José del Cabo, on the Sea of Cortez, with about 300 rooms, a ballroom for several hundred guests, beachfront terraces and a small gazebo for intimate ceremonies. It is one of the best-equipped resorts in Los Cabos for large and multi-day weddings, including Indian weddings. Wedding coverage starts at 1,800 USD.

JW Marriott Los Cabos is built for weddings at scale: a big ballroom, wide beachfront patios, in-house wedding planners and the logistics of a large Marriott resort. For photographs, the challenge is to keep that scale feeling personal, and the answer is usually the beach and the gardens in the last hour of light.

JW Marriott Los Cabos at a Glance

Puerto Los Cabos is a newer resort and marina development on the quieter east side of San José del Cabo, which keeps the beach calmer and less crowded than the Corridor. The resort's grounds run from the pools and gardens down to the sand, which gives several distinct looks within a short walk.

Wedding Venues

Marriott lists the Mila Ballroom as its largest space, with beachfront patios and terraces for ceremonies and receptions outdoors and the Kepe gazebo for smaller gatherings. Beach ceremonies face the Sea of Cortez. For photos, an outdoor ceremony on the patio or the sand in late afternoon, followed by a reception that moves indoors after dark, gives both soft natural light and a controlled room for the party.

Large and Multi-Day Weddings

Large weddings, including multi-day Indian weddings, are a specialty of this resort. For photography that means planning coverage across events: a welcome dinner, a mehndi or sangeet, the ceremony and the reception. We usually recommend a full day with a second photographer for the main day and separate shorter coverage for the other events. Our guide to wedding size explains how coverage changes with the guest list.

Light and Ceremony Times

Times for Puerto Los Cabos on the 15th of each month in 2027. Baja California Sur keeps Pacific time all year (UTC-7, no daylight saving), the same as Alberta in winter.

We plan ceremonies to start about 90 minutes before sunset, so that family photos and portraits fall in the warm last light. That is around 4:05 pm in December and 5:35 pm in June. The beach faces the Sea of Cortez, so the sun sets inland to the west: the soft side light of the last hour is what we use for portraits.

Outside Photographers

Outside wedding photographers are coordinated through the resort's wedding planners, and many Los Cabos resorts charge outside vendors an access fee. Ask for the current policy in writing before you sign your package. We send our documents to the resort directly and confirm the plan with your planner the week before.

Coverage and Prices

IVAE Studios publishes its prices. Half-day coverage of up to four hours is 1,800 to 2,800 USD, enough for the ceremony, family photos, portraits and the start of the reception. A full day of eight to ten hours with a second photographer is 3,500 to 5,500 USD, and adding a wedding film brings it to 5,500 to 8,000 USD. Every gallery is edited and delivered in a private 4K gallery within one to three business days.

We are based in Cancún and travel to Los Cabos for weddings; travel is arranged as part of the coverage, and we arrive with time to scout. Sessions before or after the wedding, such as a welcome-dinner portrait or a day-after shoot, use our collections from 245 USD.
