Package names are marketing. Silver, Gold, Signature, Editorial: they tell you nothing about what you get. What you get is always the same six ingredients in different amounts, and once you can read them, comparing studios becomes easy.
The six parts of every package
Hours of coverage is the first and biggest: it decides whether getting ready, the first look, the ceremony, portraits and the party are all covered, or only some of them. Crew is the second: a second shooter means two angles at the ceremony and the reception covered while the couple is in portraits. A pre-wedding session, engagement or welcome, is the third, and it is more useful than it sounds because it is where we learn how you two are together before it counts. Deliverables are the fourth: how many images, edited how, in what resolution, and whether prints or an album are included. Travel is the fifth, and on a destination wedding it is never optional. Film is the sixth.
The four types of package, by shape
By shape, there are four. The elopement or micro package: two to four hours, one photographer, built around the ceremony and the golden hour, for couples marrying with a handful of witnesses. The half day: up to four or five hours, usually the ceremony, portraits and the start of the reception. The full day: eight to ten hours, a second shooter, from getting ready to the dance floor. And the multi-day: a welcome dinner or a session earlier in the trip, the wedding day, and sometimes a day-after session. Most destination couples land on the full day, because the flight makes a half day feel like a missed chance.
Delivery: the line most couples skip
Delivery is where packages differ most and where couples look least. Ask three questions. How many images, and are they all edited or only a selection? What resolution, and is the full gallery downloadable or only viewable? How to compare two quotes fairly
Line them up on the six parts and the comparison writes itself. Same hours? Same crew? Is a pre-wedding session included or an add-on? How many edited images, at what resolution, delivered when? Is travel in the number or on top? Is film in, and is it a highlight or a full edit? A cheaper package with fewer hours is not cheaper; it is smaller. And the one line that rarely appears on a quote but decides how the day feels is the studio's discipline about light: whether they plan your timeline against sunset, or against the venue's convenience.
