Rosewood Mayakoba Photographer: Family, Couples, Honeymoon and Proposal Sessions on the Lagoon

Rosewood Mayakoba is the quietest address on the Riviera Maya, and the families and couples who stay there usually want photographs that feel the same way: unhurried, natural, never staged in front of a crowd. The property makes that easy. Every suite opens onto water, the lagoon gives one of the few sunsets over water on this coast, and the beach is at its best when the rest of the resort is still asleep. This is how we photograph it.

Rosewood sits inside Mayakoba, a protected stretch of mangrove, lagoons and canals between Cancún and Playa del Carmen that it shares with three other resorts and El Camaleón golf course. Suites are spread along the lagoon and the beach rather than stacked in a building, and Sense, the resort's spa, sits on its own island reached by a bridge.

Access for Guests

For a private session, the photographer comes in as your guest: you register us at the front desk a day or two ahead with the time of the session, like anyone who comes to meet a guest at the resort, and we meet you in the lobby or at your suite. Weddings and events are a different process, coordinated with the resort's events team; our Rosewood Mayakoba wedding page explains it.

Who We Photograph at Rosewood

Families. Multigenerational trips are what Rosewood does best, and a session is often the one moment the whole family is dressed and together. We plan around the youngest and the oldest in the group: short walks, shade, and the group portrait first, while everyone is fresh. See our luxury family photography.

Couples, honeymoons and babymoons. The lagoon side is made for couples: the dock of your suite, the water still as glass and the mangroves on both sides. Our honeymoon photography page explains the approach.

Proposals. A boat ride on the canals that ends at a quiet corner of the lagoon, or the beach at first light. Our guide to proposing at Rosewood Mayakoba has the plan.

Milestones. Anniversaries, vow renewals, birthdays and graduations, usually as a session before the dinner.

Where We Shoot on the Property

Your suite. The private plunge pool, the terrace and, in the lagoon suites, your own dock on the water. For families and couples it is the most private and personal setting at the resort, and it needs no reservation.

The Lagoon Lawn. A lawn at the lagoon's edge, facing the water as the sun goes down. It is the signature sunset frame of the property.

The canals by boat. Mayakoba's lagoons and mangrove canals connect the resorts, and a boat ride gives frames no beach can: reflections, green walls of mangrove and a slow, quiet pace. We photograph from the boat or from the bank as you pass.

The beach. White sand on the open Caribbean, in front of Aquí Me Quedo. The beach faces east, so it is at its best at sunrise, when the light comes straight out of the sea.

Sunrise or Sunset

Times for Rosewood Mayakoba on the 15th of each month in 2027. Quintana Roo does not use daylight saving.

For the lagoon, the dock and the Lagoon Lawn, book the last hour before sunset: around 5 pm in winter and a little after 6 pm in June and July. For the beach, sunrise; in December the sun comes up from behind Cozumel, which makes a winter sunrise session unusually striking. Families with small children often prefer sunrise anyway, when everyone is awake and the beach is empty.

How It Works

Send us your dates, the size of your group and what you are celebrating. We reply with the light for your stay and the evening we would choose, usually your second or third day, once everyone has rested from the trip. A day or two before, you register the photographer at the front desk as your guest with the time of the session, and we meet you in the lobby or at your suite.

We move around the resort quietly, with mirrorless cameras and a silent shutter, and keep to the areas the resort opens to guests. Your private gallery arrives within one to three business days, often while you are still at Rosewood.
