Most beaches on the Riviera Maya face east, so the sunset happens behind you. Rosewood Mayakoba has the lagoon, which changes everything for photos: water, mangroves and the sun going down in front of you. Here is how we plan a session there.

Where We Shoot

The canals. Mayakoba's resorts sit on a network of lagoons and mangrove canals, and boats link the four resorts; El Camaleón, the Greg Norman course that was the first PGA Tour venue in Latin America, winds through the same jungle.

For the lagoon, book the last hour before sunset; for the beach, sunrise lifts straight out of the sea. In December the sun rises from behind Cozumel, which makes a sunrise session here unusually striking.
How the Photographer Gets In
Access is simple for guests of Rosewood Mayakoba. Put the photographer's name on your reservation at the front desk with the time of the session, and we meet you in the lobby. Resorts usually reserve their outside vendor fee for weddings, so a private session for a staying guest is very seldom charged, though we always confirm the current rule in writing first. Visitors who are not staying at the resort normally need a day pass; this guide explains how it works.
