Finest Riviera Cancún: A Photographer's Guide for Families and Weddings, Opening February 2027

Families who loved Finest Playa Mujeres have been waiting for a second Finest, and it is coming to Puerto Morelos, halfway between Cancún and Playa del Carmen. We have written guides for Finest Playa Mujeres and Excellence Riviera Cancún, so here is what we know about the new resort and how we would plan photos there from the first week it opens.

Family Photos

Finest is built around families, and the new resort makes that explicit: an Imagine Kids Club, a splash park, a water-slide park, an arcade and child-care lounges near the restaurants. For photos, the best part is simpler: a beach with private areas for each club, where small children can play near the water while the light turns golden.

We keep family sessions short and playful, 45 to 60 minutes, starting with the whole group while everyone is fresh, then each household and finally the small portraits. Our guides on coordinating outfits by age and photos with toddlers help you prepare.

Suites That Photograph Well

Several suite types promise beautiful, private settings for photos: two-story rooftop family suites with plunge pools, swim-up terrace suites and Imperial Family Suites with private pools in the Finest Club. For couples, the Excellence Club adds 20 Beachfront Honeymoon Suites, ten of them with rooftop terraces and plunge pools. A rooftop at sunset is one of our favorite places for a family portrait, with the whole horizon behind you.

Weddings and the Beach Gazebo

For weddings, the resort lists a beach gazebo, two indoor ballrooms with outdoor terraces and beachfront areas for private events. That covers the classic Excellence Collection format: a ceremony at the gazebo in the late afternoon, cocktails on a terrace and a reception on the beach or in a ballroom if the weather turns. With an adults-only club inside a family resort, it also suits weddings where some guests bring children and others want a quieter stay. The Puerto Morelos Coast

Puerto Morelos sits behind the Puerto Morelos Reef National Park, which keeps the water in front of the town calmer than on many open stretches of the Caribbean. It is a small fishing town with a famous leaning lighthouse, a short drive from the resort strip, and it makes a charming backdrop for a second part of a session. When to Shoot

Times for the Puerto Morelos coast on the 15th of each month in 2027. Quintana Roo does not use daylight saving.

Children under five do best at sunrise, when the beach is empty and cool; older children and teenagers, in the hour before sunset.

Access and Opening-Week Tips

Staying guests can register the photographer at the front desk a day ahead, as at other Excellence Collection resorts. In the first weeks after any opening, staff and policies are still settling, so we confirm access in writing and plan a little extra time on the day. For weddings in 2027, ask the resort for its outside vendor policy before you sign.
