Where We Shoot

The water's edge. Away from loungers, with Cozumel on the horizon.

Around town. Parque Fundadores, with the Portal Maya sculpture and the ferry pier to Cozumel, is the classic Playa del Carmen backdrop, busiest in the evening and quiet at sunrise.

Sunrise or Sunset

Times for this beach on the 15th of each month in 2027.

The beach faces east toward Cozumel: sunrise lifts over the channel, and the hour before sunset is soft and even. If you can face an early start, from roughly October through February the sunrise appears from behind Cozumel.

How the Photographer Gets In

How does the photographer get in? As your guest. Tell the Riu Yucatán front desk our name and the time of the session in advance, and we check in at the lobby like anyone meeting you for dinner. A short private session for a staying guest is very seldom charged the outside vendor fee used for weddings, and we confirm the current policy with the resort in writing. Non-guests should plan for a day pass, as our access guide explains.
