Many visitors to Playa del Carmen stay in a casa, a posada or a small guesthouse rather than a resort. You do not need a resort for beautiful photos: the town's beaches, Parque Fundadores and the painted streets off Fifth Avenue are all close. Here is how far each place is and how we plan a session.

Where We Shoot

Here is our estimate of the walk from each guesthouse to the beach, calculated from its map location and rounded, so treat it as a guide rather than an exact figure.

Second settings. Parque Fundadores, with the Portal Maya sculpture and the ferry pier to Cozumel, is the classic Playa del Carmen backdrop, quiet at sunrise. Painted walls on the side streets off Fifth Avenue add colour in the soft light after sunrise.

The Light, Month by Month

Times for this part of the coast on the 15th of each month in 2027. Quintana Roo keeps the same clock all year.

The beach faces east toward Cozumel: sunrise lifts over the channel and the hour before sunset gives soft, even light. Mornings have a bonus: from roughly November through February, the sun comes up from behind Cozumel, across the water.

Where We Meet You

We meet you at your guesthouse or at the nearest beach access. Beaches in Mexico are public, so a session on the sand needs no pass. If your casa has a pretty courtyard or rooftop, tell us: a few frames there make the gallery personal.
