Marina El Cid Wedding Photographer: Venues, Light and Timing

In short

Marina El Cid is a resort with its own marina south of Puerto Morelos town, on the reef-protected coast. Plan the ceremony about 90 minutes before sunset; the reef keeps the water calm in your photos.

Puerto Morelos is the calmest stretch of beach between Cancún and Playa del Carmen, thanks to the reef just offshore. Marina El Cid sits on it. Here is how we plan the photography of a wedding there.

The Resort at a Glance

Venue names and capacities come from the resort's wedding listings and change with renovations and packages, so your coordinator's current sheet is the final word.

Where the Ceremony Happens

Ask Marina El Cid's wedding team for the current ceremony and reception venues, which change with packages. On this calm, reef-protected coast the best ceremony settings are the beach and any raised terrace facing the sea, with pools and loungers out of the frame.

Puerto Morelos town, with its famous leaning lighthouse and its pier, is a short drive away and makes a charming second setting.

The coast here faces east, and the Puerto Morelos reef, a protected national park a short distance offshore, breaks the waves, so the water near the beach is usually calm. The sun sets behind the resort, leaving the sand in soft, even light at the end of the day. A good rule here: start the ceremony about 90 minutes before sunset, and keep the final half hour of daylight for portraits.

Bringing Your Own Photographer

Expect Marina El Cid to charge outside wedding vendors for access. Resorts call it a vendor fee, an outside supplier fee or a day pass, and they revise it by season and wedding package, which is why we do not print a number here. The moment to negotiate it is before you sign your wedding package; afterwards coordinators have little room. Ask whether it is charged per vendor or per person, and get the answer by email. We handle the paperwork with your coordinator.

Coverage and Prices

What does it cost? Half-day coverage, up to four hours, is 1,800 to 2,800 USD. The full day, eight to ten hours with two photographers, is 3,500 to 5,500 USD, the right choice for larger weddings. With a wedding film added, 5,500 to 8,000 USD. We deliver every wedding gallery within one to three business days, not the weeks or months that are common elsewhere.
